Tyrant or Brilliant Emperor - You Choose, You Prove!

Propaganda = type of message aimed at influencing the opinions of behaviour of people either through radio, T.V., or print (newspapers, posters, pamphlets, etc.) Check out the following video as an example of propaganda from World War II.

After viewing the Disney video, go to the comment forum, where there is a question you need to answer. You will also need to post at least two thoughtful responses to other students' replies to the question. Students who choose to post inappropriately will lose the privilege of working digitally in this project. (In other words, your research and art will use books and paper - the old fashioned way!)

1. You and a partner are to create a propaganda poster project based on the life and accomplishments of Napoleon Bonaparte. The poster will be composed of pictures and information on Napoleon. Your poster will deal with either his early life and accomplishments or campaigns and later life. Your poster may be virtual (Glogster or graphics programs) or physical.

2. You are to consider at least two of the following to include in your research and on your Propaganda Poster.
You will also want to research the following people in order to learn about how others felt about Napoleon (not everyone was happy with Napoleon!!).

3. You are to pick a point of view regarding Napoleon and his reign - Do you support him and his actions or are you against him and his "dictator-like" position? For example, if you choose to do the Russian Campaign will you focus on its failures or successes? What types of images and pieces of information will you use on your poster to promote your view of Napoleon?

4. You will have to do sufficient research on your two subjects in order to know what position you wish to take and how you want to lay out and present your poster. The more knowledge you have the better your poster will be.

5. Suggestion (link) to how your poster could look. (Go to the original version in the file drop down menu to see both template versions from the dark days of typing on a typewriter.)

You will be marked on your creativity and effort on this assignment. However you will be marked more heavily on your information and content. Be sure to include enough summarized information on your poster to support the position you are taking. You need that evidence to back up your point of view on Napoleon.

As for the pictures, you can use images from the Internet (please cite them or use Creative Commons images.) Going beyond this to create your own images clearly shows outstanding effort and will be considered in the evaluation process.

Your poster will have to be completed on an 11 x 17 piece of paper if using a physical format. (To be supplied by the classroom dictator.)

Please check the rubric originally created for this project. If you wish to change any of the rubric elements, please check with the dictator. You will also need to write a one to two paragraph reflection on this project discussing what you have learned about propaganda and about Napoleon Bonaparte.

Enjoy!
